Greenspan's Body Count: Diane Ward, wife of developer James Robert Ward

Never judge a book by its cover. James Robert Ward and Diane Ward appeared to be happy and fabulously wealthy. Which they were, until Greenspan's bubble popped:
Ward built a life for himself, his wife and their two daughters on the strength of a business that developed exclusive vacation-home communities across the country.

In 2007, he and his wife moved from Atlanta to Orlando's tony Isleworth country-club community; and it was in that mansion Monday night that, police say, Bob Ward shot and killed Diane Ward.

The aftermath shows a family that was in severe financial distress.

[...]

The company went bankrupt in 2008 and had its assets sold for $15.6 million in January, court records show.

The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom house — once owned by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, former major-league pitcher Orel Hershiser and publishing mogul Rance Crain — is in foreclosure.

The Wards hadn't made a monthly mortgage payment of $16,841 for more than a year, and as of July, they owed $3.6 million on the home they bought for $4.3million, according to court records.

Listed for $5.2 million, the house has been for sale for nearly two years, according to its listing on realtor.com.

"I think Bob was hit with every kind of stress you can imagine," Saare said. "I don't have a clue as to what happened."

Whether this was murder as the police allege or suicide as James Ward's attorney claims, it's clear that the finger that pulled the trigger was on the invisible hand of Alan Greenspan.

Greenspan's Body Count: Edith Moreno and Diana Moreno

The anguish that Greenspan hath wrought is so horrible that even mothers murder their daughters:
The family of a woman arrested on suspicion fatally slashing her two daughters' throats says she had recently lost her job and was briefly hospitalized for stress.

Antonia Gomez was arrested in Sun Valley Friday and is recovering from knife wounds to her wrists and upper body.

Relatives tell the Los Angeles Times the 38-year-old Gomez was unable to make mortgage payments and had recently moved in with her mother. They say Gomez was afraid she might have to move back to Mexico.

Officers responding to a 911 call on Wednesday found 12-year-old Edith Moreno and her 17-year-old sister Diana Moreno dead with multiple stab wounds.

Greenspan's Body Count: Tom Blackmore goes realtor on his parents in Rancho Santa Fe

It starts with what sounds like a simple case of a guy gone crazy:
A 40-year-old real estate agent who was fatally shot by his father on Labor Day had just been released from psychiatric hospitalization when he went to his parents' Rancho Santa Fe mansion in a violent rage, attacking his mother and charging his father, authorities said.

[...]

While the reasons Thomas Blackmore might have turned violent Monday are unclear, he had struggled for years with alcoholism and depression and had spent the weekend under an involuntary 72-hour psychiatric evaluation after threatening suicide in text messages to family members Friday, Brugos said. Deputies found Blackmore near the railroad tracks in Encinitas, but he fought with deputies before being taken into custody and committed to the hospital, he said.

And the younger Blackmore faced felony charges stemming from an alleged alcohol-fueled April attack on two strangers in a gated community in the Fairbanks Ranch area, prosecutors said. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Tom Blackmore grew up in a well-off family, and tried to provide a similar lifestyle for his own young family. As an adult, Blackmore was a married father of two who worked in commercial real estate at Lee & Associates in Carlsbad (and apparently at NAI San Diego before that).

Blackmore had some huge early career successes in the bubble years including a $24 million Carlsbad lease for Invitrogen, and it goes without saying that he would have had a difficult time maintaining that success in the post-Greenspan-bubble era (I have told you about the CRE market, haven't I?). So it's not a great leap to suggest that financial pressures led to his breakdown. And then he planned an attack on his parents that looks suspiciously like he was trying to kill them and inherit their wealth:
On Monday, at about 6:30 p.m., Blackmore parked a quarter-mile from his parents' home on Via Recanto, an exclusive private road not far from the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course, and walked to the house, carrying a 2-gallon can of gasoline, Brugos said.

If Greenspan's bubble didn't cause Blackmore's mental breakdown, I'll eat my hat. And I would bet his rage at his parents centered around their refusal or inability to loan or give him money.

Greenspan's Body Count stands at 107. That's what you get when you give unbridled control of a nation's money supply to a bunch of politicians and academics. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Blackmore family.

Greenspan's Body Count: Kevin Daniel O'Connell

The anguish caused by Greenspan's housing bubble affects different people in different ways. Some are driven to suicide. Others are driven to murder.
A 48-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday morning to a second-degree murder charge related to fatally stabbing a popular bartender in a northwest Reno Bully's sports bar parking lot, in an attack partially captured on video taken by witnesses.

Dante Michael Vinci also faces a deadly weapon enhancement for the Jan. 8 slaying of Kevin Daniel O'Connell, 44, in a Mae Anne Avenue Bully's parking lot.

[...]

Authorities said the crime was sparked because O'Connell scolded Vinci for being obnoxious while watching a football game.

O'Connell was a bartender at the Pyramid Highway Bully's location, but the night he died he was a patron at the Mae Anne bar where Vinci had been drinking with his girlfriend.

Friends and family members told police that Vinci had been depressed, and his home had been foreclosed.

Greenspan's Body Count stands at 106.
