Greenspan's Body Count: census worker Bill Sparkman

Remember that dead census worker who MSNBC wingnut Rachel Maddow hyped as possible evidence of anti-government sentiment leading to violence?

Yeah, it turns out it was just another case of Greenspan's Body Count.

Police: Census worker made death look like homicide to get money:
Authorities cited a number of reasons supporting the conclusion that Sparkman killed himself.

For instance, there was no evidence that Sparkman had struggled with anyone. There were no defensive wounds on his body and no trauma such as a blow to the head, authorities said.

Tests ruled out any theory that he was drugged and unconscious when he was tied to the tree, making the lack of signs of a struggle more significant.

[...]

Authorities say they don't think there was any single event that triggered Sparkman to take his own life, but rather a combination of problems. He had significant debt and didn't have a full-time job, Rudzinski said.

Sparkman, a native of Florida, had moved to Laurel County to work with the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to working part-time for the census, he was a substitute teacher.

He had gotten a degree to teach math but had not been hired full-time.

In addition to the insurance considerations, Sparkman might have been trying to spare his family from thinking he killed himself, Rudzinski said, though he left no note so there is no way to know exactly what he was thinking.

Greenspan's Body Count stands at 118.

Greenspan's Body Count: Debra K. Gibbs and three players to be named later

MSNBC is catching on to the Greenspan's Body Count story. In an article about the general phenomenon, they include a few specific examples including Debra K. Gibbs of Goshen, Indiana:
Debra K. Gibbs, a 54-year-old homemaker in Goshen, in Elkhart County, didn’t leave a note. Instead, she simply sent her worried daughter out for soda pop on a summer morning — and then shot herself in the head.

Despondent over a pending home foreclosure and mounting bills, Gibbs took her life on June 23, the day after crews came to repossess her 2007 Chevy Malibu, the last purchase she’d made together with her late husband, Sam.

“She was doing everything she could to hold onto what was hers,” said Gibbs’ daughter, Rebecca Filley, 30, of Cassopolis, Mich. “This was a vivacious, very strong woman, and she was taken to her knees because of money.”

... and three unnamed victims:
They included an unemployed 52-year-old Sparta, Mich., man who hanged himself on New Year’s Day because he was “despondent over financial stress,” according to a case report. A 45-year-old Grand Rapids man shot himself in June after telling family members he was overwhelmed with credit card debt. And a 31-year-old Kentwood, Mich., man hanged himself in August in the wake of a home foreclosure and looming bills.

Greenspan's Body Count: Otis Beckford, victim of Orlando shooter Jason S. Rodriguez

It's been overshadowed by the Islamic terrorist attack on Fort Hood, but there was another shooting spree today, this one in Orlando.

And surprise, surprise -- it's another guy who was pushed over the edge by Greenspan's debt bubble:
The suspect in Friday's shooting of six people in a downtown high-rise is a 40-year-old "man with economic woes that include a recent bankruptcy filing, federal records show.

In his filing last May for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, under which he sought to have his assets liquidated and his debts discharged, Jason S. Rodriguez listed his assets at $4,675 and his liabilities at $89,873.31.

His 2002 Nissan XTerra with 110,000 miles represented $4,000 of those assets. His personal property filing described the vehicle as having body damage on the right side, an air conditioner that did not work and a transmission that was slipping.

He said his monthly income as a "sandwich artist" at a Subway Restaurant in Orlando, where he had worked for nine months, was $890.67, and he listed his monthly expenses at $815.

Excuse me? What kind of sick society extends enough credit for a "sandwich artist" to find himself in $90,000 of debt?

And, kiddies, didn't I tell you not to take on massive debt for a useless college education? Jason didn't get the memo:
The largest debts were for student loans -- $8,500 to Wachovia, $28,912 to Sallie Mae.

How did that education help your sandwich artistry, Jason? Spread the mayo with a little more flourish?

Thanks to Jr. Deputy Accountant for finding Alan Greenspan's DNA spewed all over the crime scene.
